BioMar launched SmartCare Endurance, a new solution to boost health and resilience of farmed fish

Visitas: 1

BioMar launched some days ago SmartCare Endurance, an innovative feed solution developed to help farmed fish endure challenging conditions, such as SRS outbreaks. Developed through more than a decade of research and trials, SmartCare Endurance addresses the increasing pressures of infectious diseases, chronic inflammation, and environmental stressors on aquaculture operations.

Aquaculture faces mounting pressures from factors such as infectious diseases, adverse environmental conditions, and oxidative stress. These stressors undermine fish welfare, compromise the immune system and drain energy away from growth. SmartCare Endurance directly addresses these issues by enhancing redox balance, a critical component in maintaining immune function and overall health.

“SmartCare Endurance provides farmers with a powerful tool to support fish health during enviromental challenging periods,” explained Torunn Forberg, BioMar Product Marketing Manager SmartCare. “This new product reflects our commitment to helping farmers overcome the challenges of modern aquaculture while prioritizing fish welfare and performance.”

Up to 70% higher survival

SmartCare Endurance features a unique blend of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Together, these components work to mitigate oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and enhance the fish’s natural immune response. This results in a more resilient fish, better equipped to withstand threats from pathogens such as Piscirickettsia salmonis, the causative agent of SRS, and viral diseases like IPN and PD. Repeated trials have shown statistically significant improvements in survival rates and lower markers of tissue damage in fish fed with SmartCare Endurance.

The key benefits of SmartCare Endurance are, in the first place, its improved disease resistance. In trials, fish fed with SmartCare Endurance demonstrated up to 70% higher survival when exposed to bacterial and viral pathogens. In the second place it is the protection against oxidative stress: by neutralizing free radicals, the feed helps minimize tissue damage and lipid peroxidation during stressful events.

In the third place, Biomar highlights that the SmartCare Endurance reduces chronic inflammation. The advanced formula limits pro-inflammatory response, supporting immune function and enabling energy allocation for growth and recovery.

First launch in Chile

SmartCare Endurance has shown impressive results in a range of trials, including reduced inflammation during crowding conditions and better performance under chronic stress. Fish fed with this product showed faster recovery and lower mortality rates, ensuring robust growth and productivity during critical periods.

According to Gabriela Heim, Commercial Director BioMar Chile, “SmartCare Endurance will offer producers a practical, science-driven and cost-effective solution for fostering resilience and sustainability in aquaculture operations.” SmartCare Endurance will first launch in Chile, where it has shown great potential in addressing local challenges.

First sturgeon farmers

Some days before the announcement, the French producers of Caviar d’Aquitaine have become the first sturgeon farmers to adopt BioMar’s innovative Blue Impact feed. Already renowned for their dedication to quality and tradition, this association of French farmers are now working with BioMar to integrate Blue Impact feed into their farming practices, further solidifying their commitment to responsible aquaculture.

Caviar d’Aquitaine has built a global reputation for culinary excellence, along with its unique province, rich traditions, and decades of responsible sturgeon farming. Their pursuit of excellence is nearing official recognition through a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) certification, which is in the final stages of approval.

BioMar’s Blue Impact feed represents a significant step forward for Caviar d’Aquitaine. Developed to meet the highest regional and industry standards, Blue Impact feed reduces reliance on scarce marine resources, incorporates circular and restorative raw materials, and minimizes the carbon footprint of feed production through responsible sourcing.

The innovative feed is designed to balance the environmental footprint of raw materials with the nutritional needs of aquaculture species, ensuring optimal performance in farming systems. This transformative approach supports sustainable farming practices while maintaining the exceptional quality that has made Caviar d’Aquitaine a globally respected name in caviar production.
